The Can-Am Killer

Porsche and Penske Racing introduced this 917/30 (chassis 003) for the 1973 Can-Am series. Driven by Mark Donohue, the 917/30 not only claimed the championship, but also achieved a closed-course speed record of 221.120 miles per hour at the Talladega Superspeedway in 1975. Winning all but two races in the Can-Am series, the car was nicknamed "The Can-Am Killer." Of the six 917/30s built, only three would see racing and would then become unusable in 1974 due to new season rules. The three remaining 917/30s would never race and were completed after the season concluded.
