| Deuce Day |
March 2nd, 2002
There couldn't have been a better setting for the 70th anniversary of the '32 Ford-the famous "Deuce"-than the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles on March 2nd. Southern California's weather cooperated with bright sunshine and mid-'70s temperatures, and the Petersen Museum rolled out the red carpet to welcome one of the largest gatherings of Deuces ever. An amazing 275 cars were registered, with some coming from as far as Connecticut, Texas, and Wisconsin. Over 2500 guests were in attendance-at one point people were lined up around the Museum waiting to get in to get a close-up look at the best of Deuce craftsmanship and history.
The Museum's enormous top parking decks (both covered and open-air) were carpeted with Deuces. From unrestored original cars to supremely detailed high-dollar customs, there was an incredible amount of cars to see. "Cover Car Row" featured 26 awesome cars that have graced magazine covers. There was also a comprehensive selection of original Fords-20 of the 22 different models manufactured in 1932. Restored originals, Hot Rods, historical milestones-it was Deuce Heaven.
Deuce people were out in force, along with high-profile car lovers like Jay Leno and Tim Allen. Tim's very own Bob Morse Nickel Roadster was on display. Hot Rod TV was on the scene too, taking it all in for Speed Channel viewers.
Deuce Day was presented by the Checkered Flag 200, the membership organization that has been a driving force at the Museum since it opened in 1994. Deuce Day was organized by Derek de Heras, Buddy Pepp and Ron Johnson, whose combined tireless efforts made it come together in impressive style.
