The Petersen Automotive Museum: A Decade of Collecting

One of the most unusual motorcycles of its day, the Neracar shared a number of features with automobiles such as a steel chassis, longitudinally mounted engine and twin headlights. Although most riders required practice to become accustom to its hub-center steering, its low center of gravity allowed for excellent handling and its 2.5-horsepower two-stroke engine could propel it to a top speed of 35 miles per hour. The Neracar was produced in both England and Syracuse, New York, but did not sell in profitable quantities and was discontinued in 1926.
