From 1953 to approximately 1975, Sears sold scooters and small motorcycles under the "Allstate" name, which was also applied to insurance and other products. Manufactured in Italy by Vespa, this scooter retailed for under $200 and was a popular alternative to full-size motorcycles. Other large retailers to sell scooters, mopeds and motorcycles included J.C. Penney, who sold the Austrian Kromag under the "Pinto" name, and Montgomery Ward, who sold Motobecane mopeds under their own name.
