Builder: Frank Kurtis
Los Angeles-based race car manufacturer Frank Kurtis built this 1947 “Leader Card” midget for Robert Wilke, the Midwest distributor for Kurtis Kraft and Offenhauser engines. To enhance his car’s performance on longer tracks, Kurtis made a small number of modifications. He relocated the engine three inches forward from standard and also moved the rear radius rod pick-up forward. This car won the AAA Championships at Soldier Field in 1948 and set a track record in Langhorne, Pennsylvania at 101 miles per hour.
