1958 Datsun 1000 Sedan L210

The Datsun 210 series, which included the 1000 sedan, was introduced in 1957 and exhibited in January of 1958 at the Los Angeles Imported Car Show alongside its chief competitor, Toyota’s Toyopet Crown. Facing a recession at home, the two Japanese automakers hoped to carve out a niche as the producers in America’s “second-car” market. Reception of the 210 was bolstered after one of the cars placed first in its class at the 1958 Mobilgas Trial Rally in Australia, however, the diminutive model was ill-suited to American driving conditions and relatively few were sold.
