1965 Shelby 427 Cobra H2
Second Floor - Industry
In 2001, when researchers from University of California, Riverside converted a Shelby Cobra to run on hydrogen fuel, their goals were to set a land speed record for hydrogen-powered vehicles and demonstrate that hydrogen is a safe and clean fuel. A specially engineered fuel injection system was designed for the 427 cubic inch V-8 engine, which now produces virtually no emissions. The Cobra achieved the record for the fastest hydrogen-powered vehicle when it reached a top speed of 140 miles per hour.
