1967 Toyota Sports 800
Based on the Publica Sports concept of 1962, the Sports 800 was created by aircraft designer Tatsuo Hasegawa and was Toyota’s first sports car, featuring an air-cooled, horizontally-opposed, twocylinder engine tuned for performance. With its light weight and increased horsepower, the Sports 800 paved the way for future Toyota sports cars like the 2000GT. This car is one of 41 Sports 800s that Toyota brought to the US for market testing. After dealerships concluded that the Sports 800 would not sell well, Toyota left the cars with the dealers instead of shipping them back to Japan.
