AN AMERICAN SUPERCAR
ON THE ROB AND MELANIE WALTON INDUSTRY FLOOR
*Exhibition included with the purchase of a general admission ticket or with your membership*
An American Supercar takes visitors on a journey through the history of Ford’s renowned GT sports car. Using state-of-the-art Microsoft HoloLens technology, visitors are able to join their friends and family for an up-close-and-personal look at the inner workings of the GT and its historical predecessors. A genuine 1967 Ford GT40 Mark III and 2017 Ford GT are brought to life for participants as they learn the cars’ common history and what makes each one remarkable.
HoloLens will dazzle perceptions of sight and sound as it transports users to a world where walls, floors, and objects blend to tell a story. Its unique technology provides an untethered altered reality where users connect with others inside the same scene while remaining aware of their surroundings. Holographic images overlay the actual exhibition environment, blending the real and virtual to create a four-minute multi-dimensional learning experience. 3D spatial audio augments the visuals with the visceral sounds of powerful Ford engines and tires at the limits of their grip.
The Petersen Automotive Museum is the first museum in the world to have a “mixed reality” experience as a central exhibit. An American Supercar was created by HoloLens application developer Zengalt (Bellevue, WA) in cooperation with Ford Motor Company.
