Luft x Petersen

DATE: APRIL 20, 2018

On April 20, 2018, the Petersen Automotive Museum commemorated the 30th anniversary of the Porsche 964’s debut at the 1988 Frankfort Auto Show.  The indoor/outdoor event featured a concourse of air-cooled Porsches, a projection wall DJ, curated photo opportunities, food and beverage, and an exclusive gift package. VIP guests also had an opportunity to speak with Porsche dignitaries and sample specialty cocktails in the museum’s rooftop penthouse.

Luftgekühlt, in Porsche vernacular, represents all the air-cooled cars in the manufacturer’s history, from the Pre-A 356 through the 993 model line, which ended in 1988.  The brainchild of two-time Le Mans class winner Patrick Long and noted Southern California creative director Howie Idelson, Luftgekühlt is an experiential car culture event centered around a tightly curated list of historically significant or interesting cars, both race and street.  The once small meetup has grown into a cultural phenomenon in the greater Los Angeles area.

The event concluded with a panel discussion, emceed by racer Justin Bell, featuring special guests such as co-founder Patrick Long among other Porsche legends.
