In celebration of the Japanese automotive industry and customization of cars that comes with it, the Petersen Automotive Museum is launching its two newest exhibitions, The Roots of Monozukuri: Creative Spirit in Japanese Automaking and Fine Tuning: Japanese/American Customs.

Prior to the public opening, the museum will open the door to the exhibit early and host a limited number of guests for a preview reception on Thursday, May 24, 2018. The event will include a curated panel discussion, music, gourmet food, and drinks throughout the night.

To kick off the 5th edition of Luftgekühlt, the 30th anniversary of the Porsche 964 Debut at the Frankfurt Auto Show in 1988 (89-94), and the recent opening of The Porsche Effect exhibition, the Petersen Automotive Museum will host a VIP event on Friday, April 20 with live entertainment, food, drink, panel discussion, and a cruise-in gallery of significant air-cooled cars.

This indoor/outdoor event will feature a concourse of air-cooled Porsches, a projection wall, DJ, curated photo opportunities, food and beverage, and an exclusive gift package. VIP Tickets will be treated to an exclusive experience in the William E. Connor rooftop penthouse, including access to the panelists, special alcohol tastings, and more.

Please join Petersen Automotive Museum Board Member, Kent Kresa, as he hosts a Pete Talk in the William E. Connor Penthouse. The talk will focus on his summer as Chairman of General Motors, helping the company recover from the most tumultuous few weeks in its history.

Following the financial crisis in 2008, Kresa was pulled in by the White House and appointed Chairman to help turn around General Motors. During his time as Chairman, Kresa helped steer the company in a new direction, recovering from bankruptcy while planning the long-term future of the industry giant.

The event will be held on the top decks of the world reknowned Petersen Museum parking structure. There is a a great mix of Audi, BMW, Volkswagen, Porsche, MINI, Volvo and Mercedes automobiles.

SECOND ANNUAL THERMAL INVITATIONAL

On February 25th, members and friends of the Petersen Museum will descend on The Thermal Club for a day of adrenaline and speed. Participants can choose to drive on the autocross track, main track, or both. 

The day will start with a light breakfast before hitting the track and then a delectable gourmet lunch later in the day.

MAIN TRACK ADMISSION IS $299.00 AND AUTOCROSS TRACK ADMISSION IS $125.00 PER PERSON

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS - Main Track

7am - 11am:  Racers will have this time to eat and prepare for the day. This part of the day will be for registration, vehicle checks, track orientation, and staff introductions. 

10am - 12pm: Hot laps!

12pm - 2pm: Lunch will be served track side. 

2pm - 5pm: Schedule will vary depending on the track but each class will have a dedicated time for their race. Drivers will cycle through the autocross track. There will be more time for hot laps/time attack attempts. Our partners will be offering test drives in their own cars throughout the day. 

5pm and on: Our day will conclude in clubhouse where we will recount the events of the day and announce the winners. This is your time to relax, wind down, and connect with your fellow racers after a fast paced day. 

 

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS - Autocross Track

7am - 11am:  Racers will have this time to eat and prepare for the day. This part of the day will be for registration, vehicle checks, track orientation, and staff introductions. 

10am - 4pm: Drivers will be able to attempt multiple runs over the course of the day. Every 2 hours, there will be a break for refueling and tire checks. 

12pm - 2pm: Lunch will be served track side.

5pm and on: Our day will conclude in clubhouse where we will recount the events of the day and announce the winners. This is your time to relax, wind down, and connect with your fellow racers after a fast paced day.

In celebration of Porsche’s 70th year anniversary and their contributions to automotive engineering and motorsports, the Petersen Automotive Museum is launching its newest exhibition, The Porsche Effect.

Prior to the public opening, the museum will open its doors to the exhibit early and host a limited number of guests for an opening reception on Thursday, February 1, 2018.

This once-in-a-lifetime reception will include a curated panel discussion with some of the biggest names associated with the Porsche marque, live music, gourmet food, wine and a goodie bag. VIP’s receive access to the museum’s 4th-floor penthouse to meet their heroes, who will be featured in the panel discussion- as well as receive the first Porsche themed Vault tour.

ANNUAL CARROLL SHELBY CRUISE-IN

Come see some of the fastest, rarest and most beloved Shelby’s of all time. The Petersen will celebrate Carroll Shelby’s birthday by having a cruise-in on the third floor parking structure of the museum. We invite all car enthusiasts to participate in the car show and contest. Awards will be given for Best-In-Show, Petersen Perfection, and People’s Choice. The most historically authentic car will receive The Petersen Perfection Award.

Cars will be displayed on the 3rd floor of the museum’s parking structure. All cars, trucks and motorcycles are welcome to attend. Coffee and snacks will be free to all attendees.
