Petersen Junior Concours

Junior Concours Showcase

Saturday, March 21, 2026

Start your engines! The Petersen Junior Concours returns for its third year, inviting young creators in grades K–12 to imagine the future of racing.

This year’s theme, Motorsport Reimagined, challenges students to dream big — from cutting-edge speed machines to bold, eco-powered concepts that could change the track forever. The sky’s the limit.

Participants will compete in three divisions:

  • K–3rd Grade

  • 4th–7th Grade

  • 8th–12th Grade

On Saturday, March 21, 2026, families, friends, and supporters are invited to the Junior Concours Showcase at the Petersen Automotive Museum to celebrate the creativity and hard work of these young designers.

The day will feature a special live panel with the RacerX² Team — Alexis Lam, Winter Wei, Amelia Lau, and Isabella Ta — sharing insights on innovation and motorsport.

Entries will be reviewed by an esteemed judging panel including Laura Fisher, Dana Williamson, Jonee Eisen, and renowned automotive designer Franz von Holzhausen.

Guests can also participate by voting for the Spectators’ Choice Award before we close the day with a celebratory awards ceremony recognizing standout designs.

Whether you're competing, cheering from the crowd, or simply inspired by the next generation of automotive visionaries, the Junior Concours Showcase is a celebration of imagination, innovation, and the future of motorsport.

Meet The Judging Panel

Franz von Holzhausen, Chief Designer at Tesla

As Tesla's Chief Designer since 2008, Franz von Holzhausen has led the design of every major vehicle from the Model S to the Cybertruck. He also oversees Tesla Energy products and recent autonomous innovations like the Cybercab and Optimus. Recognized as a top global designer, his career includes influential work at Volkswagen, General Motors, and Mazda.

Laura Fisher, Chief Archivist

As Chief Archivist at the Petersen Automotive Museum for nearly a decade, Laura oversees the preservation of one of the world's largest automotive history collections. She manages millions of artifacts, from historic photography to rare ephemera, ensuring the "stories behind the cars" are protected for future generations.

Jonathan Eisen, Associate Curator

As Associate Curator at the Petersen Automotive Museum, Jonathan Eisen brings automotive history to life by curating world-class exhibits and researching the world's most iconic vehicles. He is a prominent face of the museum’s YouTube channel, where his deep technical knowledge and storytelling skills engage a global audience of enthusiasts.

Dana Williamson, Director of the Collection

As Director of the Collection at the Petersen Automotive Museum, Dana Williamson is the primary steward of over 300 world-renowned vehicles and motorcycles. A true "mechanical man" with a background as a stunt pilot and race car restorer, he is one of the few people trusted to drive the most valuable cars in the collection.

About the Event

Gather your friends for an exciting adventure after hours at the Petersen Automotive Museum! You'll discover yourselves mysteriously locked in. Collaborate as a team, utilizing your detective skills to break free before time runs out! You’ll have a limit of 45 minutes to finish your mission. Enjoy light refreshments to energize your quest. Whether you experienced the challenge last year or are a newcomer, join us this year and explore a new room to test your sleuthing skills.

Here’s a Teaser about the types of Rooms you may encounter!

“Mechanical Mayhem”

The famous elephant hood ornament has been stolen. The thieves hid their loot inside the mechanic shop of the museum. Find the hood ornament in 45 minutes before the thieves come back to collect it. You and your team must use your problem-solving skills to tackle puzzles before it's too late!

“Fixing to Race”

PRNDL has reason to believe someone has tampered with the next Formula One race. It’s your job to find the impostor (or impostors!) before the race begins in 45 minutes. Use your sleuthing skills in the pit garage to identify the team and drivers by solving riddles and finding clues.

“Shiny Cars, Dirty Money”

Hollywood has always been known for its glitz and glam, but this all has a dirty underbelly. There have been rumors that at the height of the Golden Age of Hollywood, Fred Astaire’s driver stole money and hid it in one of his cars. A letter was found recently hinting at the last hiding spot of the money and has been released to all the local news stations. Work as a team and find the money before the other teams do! Use your skills to explore the clues left behind and find what’s hidden in Fred Astaire’s collection.

“Lady in Red”

Your mission is to investigate and debunk the alleged haunting of the "Lady in Red" at the Petersen Automotive Museum. You and your team will have access to the exhibit for 45 minutes to uncover the truth behind these claims. PRNDL’s intel has led us to believe evidence debunking the phenomenon is caught on CCTV footage in the Security hard drive. Use your skills to find the footage and solve the puzzles to debunk the mystery.

“House of Cars”

The secret society PRNDL is having a meeting tonight at the Petersen Automotive Museum. Explore the garage to find the rendezvous location and secret code to get into the meeting. You have 45 minutes before the members get together. Use your skills to solve puzzles in the space and discover the hidden messages.
