About the Event

The Little Sparks workshop series is a fun, interactive way for your Little Sparks (ages 3-6) to explore the world of cars. Join us on the third Saturday of each month from 9 am to 10 am to play games, create artwork, and enjoy the museum collection. The workshop is free with the purchase of museum admission. 

This month’s theme is Animals and Cars on Saturday, May 18 from 9 am to 10 am. The Petersen collection houses cars from all over the world. Let’s explore these various communities and what makes them special.

Teen Auto Workshop - May 2024

The Teen Auto Workshop, presented by the Petersen Automotive Museum, is a program for high school students to learn the basics of automotive mechanics while working on a car in the Museum's collection. Students will learn about the various parts of a car while performing repairs and upgrades on a Museum vehicle.

The workshop is free for participants.

This workshop is full and waitlisted! Thank you to everyone who registered and submitted interest in this activity. We will open registration once again for our next Teen Auto Workshop.


About the Event

The Petersen Automotive Museum is pleased to introduce a set of one-day workshops that focus on the care and maintenance of automobiles. Join us for the Auto Workshop, where through hands-on sessions led by industry experts, a student can learn the right techniques and proper procedures that help keep your car in top shape.

For those eager to share this knowledge with the next generation, the workshop invites participants between ages 15 and 19, offering a unique opportunity for young enthusiasts to delve into the world of automotive care. Guardians may accompany minors but can not participate in the workshop, and are free to explore the museum but may not leave the museum during the workshop. Admission not included with workshop.

This is a FREE Petersen Education program for students ages 15-19. Members receive complimentary parking. Not a member? Join Today!

About the Workshop

Earn your Automotive Engineering badges at the Petersen Automotive Museum. Join us for a three hour workshop and earn four badges: Automotive Design, Automotive Engineering, Automotive Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering. Learn all about the design and manufacturing process while touring the museum then put your knowledge to the test by designing, building, and racing your own model car.

The workshop cost includes admission to the museum for the scout ONLY and all materials.
Badges are not included.

About the Event

Introducing the first-ever Petersen Junior Concours! Calling all young innovators under 18! Are you passionate about cars and enjoy creating your own designs? This is your chance to shine! Be one of the first participants in the Junior Concours’s debut design challenge, Future Visions, where you imagine the Car of the Future! We're seeking youth between the ages of 5-17 to create and enter a scale car model or design sketch of a future car into our contest. Participants will be divided into age groups: 5-9 years, 10-14 years, and 15-17 years, and submissions will be accepted for the following categories: Dream Machines / The Future, Today / Off-roading Off-planet. You have until March 23, 2024, to create your scale model or design sketches, which you will then display at the Petersen Automotive Museum for consideration by our panel of esteemed judges. Winners will receive prizes such as tickets to local attractions, gift cards, memberships, and scholarships!

To join, entrants must purchase a Participant Ticket. Ticket includes entry into the Concours, light bites, and complimentary same-day admission into the Museum for (1) Youth participant plus (1) Adult guardian. Petersen Members also enjoy complimentary parking! After you purchase your ticket, you will receive a confirmation email with an event packet explaining entry rules, judging criteria, and details about our Community Build Days.

Now join us (in your own cardboard car if you’d like), and learn all of the important steps of taking care of a car from learning to drive to taking your car to the car wash.

About the Event

Join us for a free screening of the Smithsonian Channel™ documentary: The Green Book: Guide to Freedom on Wednesday February 28, 2024 from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm in conjunction with the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Services (SITES), “The Negro Motorist: Green Book” on display at the Petersen until March 10, 2024.

In the 1930s, a black postal carrier from Harlem named Victor Green published a book that was part travel guide and part survival guide. It was called The Negro Motorist Green Book, and it helped African-Americans navigate safe passage across America well into the 1960s. Explore some of the segregated nation's safe havens and notorious "sundown towns" and witness stories of struggle and indignity as well as opportunity and triumph.
