Suki’s Ride in 2 Fast 2 Furious

In 1995, Honda released an exciting concept car at the Tokyo Motor Show, but no one expected the car to actually go into production. However, Honda decided to release the S2000 in 1999 to celebrate the company’s 50th anniversary. The S2000 followed on the backs of Honda’s 1960s roadsters, the S500, S600, and S800, and it was named for its engine displacement of 2,000 cc (2.0L).

The Honda S2000 is a front mid-engine, rear wheel drive car, launched with a 2.0L inline four cylinder DOHC-VTEC engine (codename F20C) producing 237 hp. The S2000 was produced between 1999 to 2009, in two iterations for the US market. The first, named the AP1, was produced from 1999 to 2003. Known for its high-revving nature, the F20C in its Japanese specification making 247 horsepower held the title for highest power to displacement ratio for a naturally aspirated mass-production engine in its time. The car’s renowned handling characteristics can be attributed to a nearly exact 50:50 weight distribution. The AP2, produced from 2004 to 2009, received the F22C1 2.2L inline four producing the same horsepower, with approximately 10 lb-ft additional peak torque nearly 700rpm sooner to satiate the US market tastes, with some revised suspension components and cosmetic changes.

This Honda S2000 was driven by Johnny Tran in the original Fast and Furious, and by Suki in the second installment, 2 Fast, 2 Furious. For the character Suki, the Honda was repainted a bright pink (it was black in the first film) and given an anime-style airbrush treatment. The film crew reportedly had to hire a professional airbrush artist to retouch the car in between takes – the S2000 appears in a full-contact street race through the streets of Miami at the beginning of the second film, which explains the bangs and scratches on the front bumper. The engine uses a Paxton supercharger that produces around 340 horsepower. To prepare the Honda for the scene in which it goes airborne over a bridge, the roadster was equipped with a special ground effects kit and 18-inch rims.
