In 2005 Swedish hypercar company Koenigsegg introduced the CCR, the first road car to beat the 1998 world speed record set by the McLaren F1. Building on their history of offering high-performance record-setting hypercars, the company debuted the Regera in 2021. Called a “megacar” by the company, the Regera is the first Koenigsegg to combine electric power with an internal combustion engine. In place of a traditional gearbox, a hydraulic coupling transfers the power of the Regera’s engine and electric motors to its rear axle directly, making the car lighter and more powerful than traditional gas-electric hybrids.
