Trouble, and make it double.
Bobby Garza’s Chevrolet Bel Air “Double Trouble” won Lowrider’s coveted Lowrider of the Year award three times—in 2018, 2019, and 2021—the maximum number of times allowed. And that is exactly what the car was designed to do. Some lowrider car owners want to cruise the boulevard in their vehicles and show them off at community events; Garza’s motivation was to have a car that was worthy of the highest honors in lowrider competition.
Garza was no stranger to the Lowrider of the Year title when work began on “Double Trouble”; his 1987 Oldsmobile Cutlass “The Big Payback” won the award in 2015. So he knew the level of craftsmanship that would be required to secure a three-time win. The car features all the necessary points-scoring elements: custom bodywork; a pristine paint job with pinstriping, silver leaf, and airbrushed murals of Garza’s two youngest sons; exquisite engraving; and a one-off hydraulic system (which also won Lowrider’s Best Hydraulics award).
