King of Mulholland Drive
Chris Banning modified this 911 in the mid-1970s specifically for the unique driving conditions on Mulholland Drive, a then-rough road above Los Angeles with sharp turns and short straights. The car was acid-dipped, shedding significant weight. RSR fender flares were added along with Fuchs racing wheels and a 2.8-liter high-compression RSR-spec engine. The windshield was raked back three inches for better aerodynamics. Banning also installed a factory RSR suspension and a Porsche 915 5-speed transmission with close-ratio lower gears. The car proved well-suited to competition and was a notable precursor to the high-performance custom Porsches of today.
